Abstract | most recent reports reiterate the need to focus on creating more student-centered learning environments that use the most effective researchbased teaching, learning, and assessment strategies to promote student success (American Association for the Advancement of Science, 2011; Association of American Medical Colleges-Howard Hughes Medical Institute Committee, 2012). In other publications, we describe the important outcomes derived from participation in these CoPs; briefly, they include individually-based benefits such as altering teaching practices, re-energizing one's career, gaining credibility for professional work, increased opportunities for collaboration, career advancement, and obtaining a grant or publishing an article, as well as more organizational outcomes such as departmental and institutional changes related to student learning outcomes, revised curriculum, and new learning spaces (Kezar & Gehrke, 2015). |
