Abstract | Supervision for social workers is an essential vehicle for revitalising, reflecting and transforming practice. In this article, the external supervision space is co-constructed by the position of the authors as participants and researchers in the study. Using critical reflection as the research method, the supervisor and supervisee examine the content of recorded supervision sessions and follow-up participatory reflection sessions using a 'thinking aloud' process. Consequently, practice is enriched through the method of deconstructing and reconstructing. The significance of: the relationship between supervisor and supervisee; innovations; and the process as structure are discussed. Results of this study indicate enormous benefit for further research into the supervision session using critical reflection as a research methodology and the exploration and limits of personal disclosure. |
