| Abstract | "Student achievement and well-being are key concerns for school counselors, but how can counselors demonstrate the impact their work is having? The Use of Data in School Counseling provides counselors with the know-how and tools they need to think differently about how they design, implement, evaluate, and improve their student intervention programs and services. The authors explain how school counselors must change the nature of their practice from providing reactive "random acts of guidance" to providing intentional guidance and predetermined interventions. Unlike the more traditional expectation that school counselors provide responsive interventions for students who are referred or who refer themselves for services, the intentional school counseling approach detailed in this book requires school counselors to determine, using data, which students require interventions--and at what intervals--and to craft specific interventions to meet the needs of those students. The book provides the nuts and bolts of how to create and utilize needs assessments, design Intentional Guidance Action Plans, determine necessary interventions, create pre- and post-assessment tools, and report results of the interventions. In addition, the text describes ways school counselors can make time (a critical challenge for most of them) by setting priorities to ensure interventions are integral to their program"--Provided by publisher. |
