| Abstract | This study investigates the extent to which training and education in environmental management for future managers reflect actual needs. The data for the EU-funded study – ‘Training in Environmental Management’ – were collected from 42 providers of education and training for key managers in four European countries over three years in the mid- 1990s. Among other things, it was found that courses on the environment had resulted in interesting and innovative teaching approaches at the institutions visited (compared with the ‘traditional’ courses offered by the same institutions). These approaches are illustrated in the paper by means of three case examples. The authors examine and compare the responses of the institutions to the increasing pressure for environmental sensitivity. |
