Abstract | The authors' commitment to experiential education is rooted in their own training as teachers in Denmark. Throughout college, they engaged in experiential and constructivist learning, placing primary responsibility for learning on the learners. After their graduation, they used the same practices in their work with troubled and troubling youth in both public and private schools. In this article, the authors describe their experiences leading extended motorcycle tours across the United States with groups of Danish youth at risk. They use several small stories to highlight what the youth learned and to illustrate how the experiences supported the students' need for Belonging, Mastery, Independence, and Generosity.
