AbstractParticipating in the Save Our School march was an inspiring event, the reverberating impact from which will be long-lasting. The march, which was endorsed by the Executive Board of Association for Childhood Education International (ACEI), was an effort to call awareness to the struggles that public education faces in the United States. The guiding principles for the Save Our Schools Campaign are the following: (1) equitable funding for all public school communities; (2) an end to high-stakes testing used for the purpose of student, teacher, and school evaluation; (3) teacher, family, and community leadership in forming public education policies; and (4) curriculum developed for and by local school communities. The Save Our Schools March was a gathering of citizens, predominantly teachers, from all over the United States, who realized that the current policies and laws have not considered the voice of the teacher or the child; thus, these policies and laws are having a negative effect on children's learning. The participants were there to help shape public opinion about public schools in the United States. As President of ACEI, the author will remain steadfast in bringing attention to the stories of teachers and children, who deserve to be active participants in their own teaching and learning. Following the inspiration of former ACEI leaders, she implores every ACEI member to critically reflect on what it means to be an engaged citizen in one's own country, and, indeed, the world. In the end, when educators are unified with a global perspective, they can collectively work together for the positive development of children in order to move meaningfully toward a more peaceful world.
