Abstract | This paper utilises some of Foucault's notions to explore the use of the "disciplinary technologies" of film/video in social guidance programmes in schools to shape, constitute and control the morality of youth. As the first section elaborates, for Foucault, "technology" is the actual practice of power that involves "the government of individuals, the government of the souls, the government of the self by the self, the government of families, the government of children, and so on" (Foucault, 1984, p. 256). Foucault's discussion of the link between political rationality and the emergence of the social sciences, and also his work on morality, provides some perspectives on why the society seems so concerned about youth morality and in providing guidance in such matters.
