Abstract | In this article, separate sections examine the anchoring ingredients of the regional strategies through which two-year colleges are responding to local, regional, and in some cases broader needs deemed critical to generating and sustaining economic productivity and other forms of social and civic capital. First, drawing on recent European literature, the author examines why regional agendas for postsecondary education policy and implementation are being considered in the United States and abroad. Second, the article provides an overview of the regional context and challenges confronting Midwestern two-year colleges, as they address the president's college completion goals and other societal priorities. Finally, the author briefly describes eight signature regional innovation strategies generated by a recent Midwestern colloquium on the topic. (ERIC). |
