| Abstract | This article describes a dilemma based on Muller's experiences working with young children, their teachers, and families. This dilemma will provide the opportunity to apply the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct, with a special emphasis on the impact of culture and beliefs on teaching practice. The 2011 reaffirmation and update of the Code stresses the importance of ensuring cultural consistency between children's homes and early care and education programs. This case highlights circumstances that make maintaining this consistency a challenge due to a conflict between individual children's home beliefs and the beliefs on which the program is based. It calls for consideration of center policies and the best interests of children. Steps for resolving the dilemma are offered. (ERIC). |
