Abstract | Children are drawing inventors. Their art is certainly not what most adults think of as drawing. Almost instinctively, kids know that drawing is everywhere--that they can draw with almost anything, and that innumerable surfaces can be converted for art use. Teaching drawing is showing interest and enthusiasm for kids' drawing inventions--instead of lessons that "talk" about drawing as something adults invented, with skills to master and steps to follow. A drawing lesson should open doors for young drawing artists to look for opportunities everywhere, starting with their own inventions. In this article, the author describes a few of the drawings he made, and the "drawing inventors" who inspired them. (Contains 1 footnote.) (ERIC). |
