AbstractBullying happens every day in classrooms and on playgrounds all over the world. Parents, when faced with the fact that their child has become the target of a bully, experience a stream of emotions: anger, fear, the need to protect, and the realization that the child must go back to school or out to play and face the bully again the next day. Many parents do not realize that there is a high prevalence of bullying at school. Some parents believe that bullying is a part of the school experience and must be endured. Parents often feel helpless when confronted with a child hurt and confused by being bullied, but even more frightening is the fact that a large number of students never tell their teachers, school administrators, or parents that they are being bullied. The Internet via social networks, and the prevalence of cell phones, has added a whole new dimension to the problem of bullying. In this article, the author offers a few tips for parents to support their child. She suggests that parents need to be alert to signs of distress from bullying in their children and then move quickly to help them feel safe in their communities. (ERIC).
