Abstract | During her 13 years leading a school district human resources office, the author came to recognize that managing human capital is much more than recruiting, hiring, managing personnel records, and handling performance issues. In addition to implementing initiatives to increase the efficiency with which HR officers and staff perform those tasks, the author suggests they must ensure that the school district is in compliance with the ever-changing federal and state laws and regulations. They must also ensure that school leaders are adequately trained and that procedures are in place to guarantee the district's regulatory compliance and to decrease its exposure to needless lawsuits. A human resources audit is an effective way to do just that. The purpose of an HR audit is to assess the effectiveness and efficiency of human resources functions. The audit involves a review of all HR policies, practices, and procedures to ensure that they are up-to-date with legal and compliance requirements. A human resources audit is a strategic approach that can provide a variety of benefits to school districts. (ERIC). |
