Abstract | Building a culture of reading in a school requires the participation of the entire school community--students, teachers, administrators, staff, parents, and patrons. To be successful, the whole community must be on board with books--not just the helpful librarian in the school library. Implementing library programs to encourage students to read does not necessarily build a culture of reading. Students need to see adults, in various roles, reading: a favorite teacher, a coach, or administrators. Parents, guardians, and community members must witness and be knowledgeable about the reading culture. In this article, the authors discuss how the librarians at Warrior Run School District (WRSD) in Turbotville, PA, build a culture of reading. (ERIC). |
