Abstract | This is the latest in a series of polls sponsored by Phi Delta Kappa International with the Gallup organization. Some important findings of this year's poll include: About half of us believe teacher unions are hurting public education, but we're more likely to support teacher union leaders than governors in disputes over teacher collective bargaining; when calculating teacher salaries, multiple factors, including the principal's evaluation, advanced degrees and experience, should be considered; and, we think it would be great if our children became teachers. The results of this year's poll are presented along with past results, when applicable, to give both a snapshot of Americans' opinions about their schools and an indication of how those opinions are changing over time.
