Abstract | There is a great deal to learn from colleagues who have had critical and noteworthy contributions to athletic training education. Therefore, this journal periodically includes the Robert S. Behnke keynote addresses from recipients of the Sayers "Bud" Miller Distinguished Educator Award. In this issue, the speech from Danny T. Foster, PhD, who received the Distinguished Educator Award in 2005 is presented. Foster states that he has learned, after three decades of "trying to learn to teach," that it all comes down to him and his students engaging in a conversation that connects them to a particular subject. He contends that teachers are always teaching in the face of fear that derives from three primary sources: the teacher's dominant way of knowing things, the lives of the students, and the personal self.
