Abstract | Experienced leaders face challenges that demand different leadership approaches to those of inexperienced leaders. The purposes of this article are to: (1) explore the leadership initiatives prominent for experienced leaders compared with inexperienced leaders; (2) examine the relationship between transformational leadership and these initiatives; and (3) enhance the transformational model by examining it in terms of instructional leadership and the three meta dimensions of mission-centred, performance-centred, and culture-centred leadership in relation to the key initiatives. The contributions of principal leadership to innovative workplace outcomes and the implications of these findings for research and practice are also examined. (Contains 1 figure and 3 tables.)
