Abstract | Teaching wellness principles in secondary physical education classes has become an important aspect of physical education as teachers work to help their students develop lifelong healthy lifestyle habits. Many schools now have a required wellness/fitness component as part of their state core requirements. Having developed their teaching skills by predominantly focusing on teaching psychomotor skills, some physical educators may struggle with how to effectively teach cognitive wellness information in an interesting manner. Some may revert to using presentation software and worksheets to convey wellness concepts, and consequently their use of questioning may be somewhat limited and not challenge the students. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to provide physical educators with practical examples of teaching wellness concepts using various teaching styles from Mosston's Spectrum of Teaching Styles (2002).
