Abstract | Mobile technology is an effective way of conveying information to alumni, especially during a major event. Alumni appreciate not only access to information in a convenient medium, but also efforts to engage with them through new technology. Like so many of the best ideas at Princeton University, the creation of Reunions Mobile emerged from interaction with alumni volunteers. In this article, the author describes Reunions Mobile, a mobile Web site that provides a portable way to communicate maps, schedules, and important messages to thousands of returning alumni. The Alumni Association of Princeton University worked in conjunction with the university's Office of Information Technology and several groups of alumni volunteers to make Reunions Mobile a reality. They set themselves the goal of developing a way to deliver key information about reunions weekend to attendees on their portable electronic devices such as smartphones and PDAs. This project would supplement the 48-page printed schedule of events and enhance communication with alumni who have returned to campus. (ERIC). |
