Abstract | The process of hiring for student success is important, as college staff, faculty, and administrators affect the lives of students daily and help to determine their success in college and in life. What is at stake is student success and its infrastructure: the quality of the academic environment, the quality of learning, and services for students, all of which contribute to students' achievement of their education goals. Therefore, it is vital to keep the focus on what the candidate can contribute to the success of students. This article presents the authors' perspective on hiring for student success. They argue that community colleges must ensure that the hiring process reflects the desired outcome by first defining student success and then allowing the definition and description to guide all steps of the hiring process while avoiding pitfalls along the way.
