AbstractThe high demand for educational services for training in specialties of economic management, a level that has become increasingly apparent in the past decade and a half, has taken shape as a result of the population's perceptions as to which specialties are the most in demand in Russia's labor market. And yet, as experts in the field of education and the labor market have often noted, when they enroll in an institution of higher learning most students do not have any idea where they will work. One of the conditions necessary to ensure an institution's success in the market of educational services is having information about the fate of its graduates. This topic was the focus of a study of the professional careers of graduates of the management faculty at the Higher School of Economics State University. In this article the authors have attempted, using prestigious kinds of activity as an example, to look behind the career advances of graduates of the faculty specializing in the training of managers and examine the social organization of Russian business and of Russian society. The authors' study is based on a standardized questionnaire survey of graduates of the management faculty at the Higher School of Economics State University, carried out in March to June 2007. The authors present the results of the study and examine how the respondents had looked for work and found jobs. (Contains 1 figure, 1 table and 2 notes.) (ERIC).
