| Abstract | During the 1990s it became evident that technology was changing instructional delivery and many student and academic support services in a major way. These changes, coupled with increasing interest in and demand for more flexible scheduling for courses and programs, paved the way for colleges and universities to develop online (Web-based) courses. Within a few years, online courses became dominant as the preferred distance delivery method driven by student demand. Development of online learning courses and programs in colleges and universities has changed the teaching and learning environment and many institutional processes and systems over the past decade. This chapter describes the changes, challenges, and rewards of developing an online learning program by a small rural community college in central Michigan. (ERIC). |
