| Abstract | As soon as they graduate from arm-length viewing in shopping-cart seats, children take off to adventure in aisles, touching just about everything. Kids will pocket fallen signs and lug unusual, empty shelves and packaging materials in hopes of taking them home. Kids recognize and compliment supermarket artists--stock clerks who create container walls, freestanding skyscrapers out of soda cans or melon mountains. Interest in the new should be an underlying theme of every art class. The supermarket is one of the most common places for the display of the new, and is accessible to anyone. In this article, the author discusses how supermarkets can be great places for children's art explorations--whether for inspiration or for the collection of objects to use in the creation of their art.
