AbstractThe Bologna process, the most successful European project in the field of higher education, calls for colleges and universities to take joint actions to create a unified European educational space. One possible way to accomplish this task is to implement international scientific research projects. In connection with this, it becomes necessary to make a detailed analysis of the practices involved in implementing international projects in institutions of higher learning and to put together an integral system for the training of a university's staff of professors and instructors to prepare them for international scientific interaction. This article discusses a sociological survey conducted at Murmansk State Pedagogical University in order to determine professors' and instructors' attitudes toward international cooperation and the necessity of adopting a special program for their training to implement international projects of varying levels and content. A questionnaire survey included both open and closed questions, a total of twenty-two. Carried out by staff of the interuniversity laboratory of sociological research at Murmansk State Pedagogical University, the sample consisted of ninety people. The survey results were processed using SPSS software. Survey data show that efforts to connect Russian education to international trends and activities have support from teachers in Russian higher education.
