Abstract	The Information Age has been built, in part, on the belief that more information is always better. True to that sentiment, people have found ways to make a lot of information available to the masses--perhaps more than anyone ever imagined. The goal of the Semantic Web, often called Web 3.0, is for users to spend less time looking for information and more time using and participating with what they find. In other words, less slogging, more blogging. Before people can have a Semantic Web, though, they must first make information much more understandable to machines. That means making three leaps over the current version of the Web: (1) Use intelligent tagging; (2) Group intelligently tagged information into ontologies; and (3) Use shared ontologies and databases. In this article, the author explains the theory behind the Semantic Web and how it can help educators manage the ever-expanding information overload by putting the onus of organization back where it belongs--on the computers. He also considers more general potential impacts of the Semantic Web on education from the learner's point of view. (ERIC).
