Abstract | The processes of disintegration of the former system of values, ideals, and established models of socialization, and the search for new ones, could hardly fail to have an impact on the personality formation and development of young people. The impact has been contradictory, evidence for which is provided by the results of a questionnaire sociological survey among ethnic Russian rural young people in Buriatia and Chita oblast. In this article, the author discusses the data of the sociological survey and identifies the spiritual and moral values of today's ethnic Russian rural young people in a multiethnic region. Results of the sociological survey reveal that the profound social and economic crisis in the countryside is having a negative impact on the formation of the values of rural youth. It is leading to such consequences as a decline in the reproductive function; the worsening of their physical health and their social and psychological well-being; a lack of confidence in the future; and anxiety, unemployment, and drunkenness. In order to develop positive moral attitudes and overcome the negative processes that are going on among rural young people, the author suggests that fundamental actions and extreme measures will have to be taken by the state.
