AbstractLinda Worden always loved books. She liked the way they felt in her hands and the way they smelled. The only problem was she could not read them--until she took part in Channel 4's "Can't Read, Can't Write". This article tells the story of Linda Worden and how learning to read changed her life. Her attempts to learn as an adult are a shocking indication of something lacking in the system of education. After failing several times in her attempts to learn to read, the time has come after coming across an appeal from a television company for adult learners who wanted to improve their reading and writing skills. She was so determined to achieve what she wanted to achieve and she was happy to accept the offer from Channel 4. Now she's just as determined about helping others who are in the same situation she was. Linda's experience made her realise that it's not just a case of learning to read and write and, once you do, that's that. (ERIC).
