Abstract | After having been in or affiliated with the law enforcement field for over a decade, teaching adults throughout much of that time, the author finds it difficult to think of himself in a strange new role. He will be moving out of state with his family to begin his doctoral studies in the field of adult education. What will he learn as he takes this journey from "practice to theory"? This article outlines, in only the briefest form, some of the more salient and coherent observations and reflections formulated during the author's study of the academic literature in the field of adult education. The subject of these ruminations will no doubt influence both his research and his practice through the coming years, and it is the author's hope that they might spark some interest and innovation in the reader as well.
