Abstract | Ethical challenges associated with the relationships among members of an evaluative team/organization receive less attention. Examples of the kinds of ethical dilemmas that could occur within an evaluation team include an individual taking undeserved credit, transferring blame, making false promises, withholding information, breaching confidentiality, or using information as a weapon to ensure job security. Drawing on the American Evaluation Association's (AEA) Guiding Principles--especially those associated with integrity and honesty, this essay briefly presents some of the ways in which those principles can be violated in an evaluation team and provides some practical suggestions for action when faced with those situations. The article concludes with a reflection on the use of the "Guiding Principles" and the need to prepare new evaluators for these challenges. (ERIC). |
