Abstract | Art education can be profoundly important to individual students, to learning collectives, and to our conceptions of what schooling might be. The value of student engagement in the arts as a way to develop imaginative approaches to constructing knowledge has been richly described. However, a less commonly studied component of visual art education is the educational dynamic engendered by teachers who are also artists, including full-time art specialists. This article examines how the teaching artist can influence the dynamics of the interaction among teacher, subject, students, and the learning environment. It is based on an evolving research project that explores the work of teaching artists in K-12 schools. (ERIC). |
