Abstract | Educators, students, and families face many challenges in responding to the testing mandates of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB) and Individuals With Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004 (IDEA), including providing students with disabilities with individualized, approved, valid, effective, and acceptable testing accommodations. Many multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) experience difficulties in determining which students should receive testing accommodations, and in selecting and consistently implementing valid testing accommodations. This article presents guidelines and resources that MDTs can use to identify, select, implement, and evaluate appropriate testing accommodations. Although these guidelines and resources are presented in the context of determining testing accommodations for elementary and secondary level students with disabilities, they can be tailored for use with students with disabilities educated in colleges and universities.
