Abstract | In this article, Kavita Rao describes a distance learning course offered to K-8 teachers in Micronesia that focused on the use of synchronous technologies to address cultural learning preferences for face-to-face and real-time communication. Rao presents a case study of the course that was conducted on the islands of Pohnpei and Ebeye. Participants' perspectives on the combination of synchronous and asynchronous distance learning technologies are explored and analyzed in order to determine what challenges and successes participants perceived. In assessing the participant feedback, Rao also includes a set of recommendations for course developers working in rural, geographically dispersed, and culturally diverse settings. (Contains 7 exhibits and 2 tables.) (As Provided). |
