Abstract	This article considers three issues. First, through a rephrased summary of the argument in Pavitt and Johnson (1999), the author describes why he feels that the socioegocentric model (SM) is unlikely to be an accurate portrayal of communicative influence. Second, based on considerations addresses in more detail in Pavitt (in press), the author comments on the status of both the SM and dual-level connectionist model as scientific communication theories. Third, based on an approach to explanation in communication expresses in Pavitt (2000), the author defends his belief that the inclusion of communication is necessary in theories of human interaction no matter whether or not the SM is defensible.
