Abstract | Skills are high on the agendas of politicians and, increasingly, of employers. For Chris Humphries, Chief Executive of the UK Commission for Employment and Skills, it felt as though things have come full circle. He noted that five years ago, the biggest priority for business was not skills, but they are now--absolutely, categorically and without hesitation. He contended that if UK is to meet the targets set out by Lord Leitch in his 2006 review of UK's long term skills needs, UK should transform teaching and learning practice. In this article, the author sets out the contentions of Humphries in developing the employability skills of the UK workforce. (ERIC). |
