Abstract | Fueled by the internet, instantaneous videos, and the emphasis to look "right" or always win athletic competitions, many students are seeking information on nutrition and dietary supplements. Classroom observations reveal student interest and discussions are among the highest when the topic is dietary supplements. Teachers and coaches provide an important link in providing accurate, research-based nutritional education. In this article, a questionnaire and discussion is presented as a teaching aid for the teacher or coach who faces the daunting task of educating students and/or athletes regarding nutrition and the use of dietary supplements. This questionnaire can be used to assess a student's nutritional behavior, promote classroom discussion, and provide general "teaching concepts." An additional goal of using the questionnaire is to enlighten students to simple changes in dietary patterns that can be implemented in place of consuming a dietary supplement. (Contains 2 tables.)
