Abstract | This study evaluates the effects of Holocaust education on American students' level of anti-semitism. A survey consisting of questions regarding the respondent's knowledge of the Holocaust, their demographic characteristics, and a series of political and social indicators was conducted. Results suggest that knowing more about the Holocaust did not reduce the level of anti-Semitism or general intolerance for the students who acquired this knowledge. Moreover, Holocaust education was largely a matter of self-selection. Students attracted to the course(s) tended to be individuals with preexisting attitudes about Jews and other minorities. Holocaust education simply reinforced these attitudes. (Contains 3 tables and 10 endnotes.) (ERIC). |
