AbstractThis article presents some of the best, most surprising and funniest advice from the longest running teacher magazine, "Instructor." Included are snippets from issues of "Instructor" published between 1891 and 2005 such as: "5 Tips from Our First Issue" (1891); Advice for "Teacher Ladies" (1894, 1941); Teacher-to-Teacher (Idea Swapping) (1905, 1915, 1966); What (Not) to Wear (1915, 1926, 1956, 1941, 1976); Tips on Trips (1936); and Writing Prompts (1916). Additional selections from "Instructor" over the years focus on teaching during wartime when the First and Second World Wars called upon teachers to support their homefront. Described are teaching activities such as: "Building Patriotism" (1917); "Keep Up Children's Morale" (1943); "Posters to Support the Troops" (1943); Guess the Story (1945); Give Out Academy Awards (1976); and Adopt Lonely Books (1986). Also included is a timeline depicting the advancements in classroom technology from 1895 and the development of the blackboard and chalk to 2005 and the innovation of handheld tablet PCs. (ERIC).
