Abstract	When "A Nation at Risk" appeared in 1983, everyone saw school reform through a lens of preconceived ideas about teaching and learning, and every part of the land of education reacted differently to the report. Some saw the problem as "bad teachers," which immediately raised the question of "bad schools of education" where they were trained. Others--even some members of the panel that wrote "A Nation at Risk"--saw the problem as low standards. This author questions whether educational reforms that were made after "A Nation of Risk" have been successful in improving the educational system in the country. She contends that many of these reforms are less concerned with producing generations of critical or creative thinkers than with satisfying a range of competing agendas. (Contains 3 footnotes.)
