AbstractThose who teach know that it is difficult and demanding. Relentlessly, teaching requires much and seldom gives much back. Needless to say, many teachers find the challenges frustrating and complex. It is easy to understand that "teacher burnout" is as much a part of the profession as overhead projectors and textbooks. In 1995, the Brigham Young University (BYU) Partnership, a mutual collaboration between a university and five surrounding school districts, initiated an "associates program." Modeled after the renewal process directed by John Goodlad and the Center for Educational Renewal and the National Network for Educational Renewal, the directors of the Associates Program instigated a renewal process, a thoughtful, reflective, mindful, and purposeful exploration into some fundamental concepts. This article describes the program's effort to involve individuals in an experience to renew and to grow. It is that exploration within oneself but in association with others. Too many educators have lost the "will to live" educationally. This program has helped the participants to find that once more. (Contains 11 resources.) (ERIC).
