Abstract | This study applied a multinomial HOLM technique to examine the extent to which the institutional climate for diversity influences the different types of college student withdrawal, such as stop out, drop out, and transfer. Based on a reformulation of Tinto's model along with the conceptualization of institutional climate for diversity by Hurtado et al. (1999), this study found that institutional climate for diversity had significant but differential effects on the different types of student withdrawal. This study reminds educators to take institutional climate for diversity more seriously and suggests a more sophisticated method for conducting research on college student withdrawal.
