| Abstract | Psychotherapy session limits are becoming commonplace in university counseling centers, yet there is a paucity of evidence regarding the effects on students' service utilization. This study investigated whether students are likely to seek counseling when the number of sessions is limited, while also considering problem type and help-seeking attitudes. Students (N=300) rated 20 problems on perceived urgency; read a brochure describing counseling services offering 3, 10, or unlimited sessions; and rated their likelihood of seeking counseling for each problem. Exploratory factor analysis indicated that the 20 problem urgency ratings conformed to a 5-factor structure. No differences were found among the 3 groups' likelihoods of utilization for the 5 problem factors as a function of number of sessions available. (Author). |
