Abstract | Most teachers of young children start their days with some type of class meeting--typically circle time. Although similar to circle time, Morning Meeting is structured with four essential components: the greeting (children greet each other); sharing (several children share important information about themselves); a group activity (the group engages in a lively, community-building activity); and news and announcements (the teacher discusses a message written to the class) (Kreite 2002). In this article, two early childhood teacher educators tell how, like the many teachers who start the children's days with class meeting or circle time, they open their teacher preparation courses and workshops with an adult version of morning meeting to create a caring community of learners.
