Abstract | Success in today's K-12 environment often hinges on improved test scores. But success should be defined more broadly to recognize the overall learning environment that is created by students, teachers, staff members, administrators, and parents. As a middle level principal, the author has learned that to create long-lasting change and to foster a positive school culture, it is important to establish a collaborative partnership among these groups. At Gardner Newman Middle School in LaGrange, Georgia, collaborative site-based management has helped them address the many challenges facing schools today, resulting in better ideas, easier implementation of change, and improved student development and performance. In this article, the author describes how she guided her school in developing and implementing a collaborative site-based management plan. (ERIC). |
