Abstract | The success of public schools is highly dependent on how well they adapt to changes in the competitive and political climate. Educators must look to one another, professional associations, and communities for support in developing strategies and sharing best practices to ensure the success of all students. This article describes how Lafayette Jefferson High School in Lafayette, Indiana, has reinvented itself by developing and implementing an aggressive strategic plan, "Build the Future," to improve the school by seeking support from its stakeholders. Like urban school districts across the country, Lafayette Jefferson has had a significant decline in enrollment and budgetary cuts that have severely compromised its programs and the efficient and stable operation of the school. The school used critical questions to redefine its mission and identify stakeholders. It cultivated private resources by marketing itself, its programs, and its staff members. So far, the school has raised nearly $10 million in private funds and increased its enrollment by 200 students. (ERIC). |
