Abstract | A marketing campaign intended to persuade Chinese students to study in the United States will soon branch out to other parts of the globe. The U.S.-led program, which includes slick television commercials and a one-stop-shopping Web portal, was introduced in China last fall. The commercials, which run about 30 minutes and were filmed on American college campuses, show Chinese students talking about their experiences in the United States. The Web site, viewed by an estimated 135,000 people each month, provides general information about studying in the United States and offers guidance on applying for visas and financial aid (http://www.liuxueusa.cn). It also shows the commercials. Both are part of a larger effort by the State, Commerce, and Education Departments to more aggressively promote American higher education overseas. They plan to develop a similar marketing campaign in India for this fall. China and India send more students to the United States than any other country. (ERIC). |
