Abstract | The Personal Health Protective Practices of the out-of-school adolescent was investigated using a survey design. Three research questions were formulated and tested. The population consists of out-of-school adolescents in South-South Senatorial District of Nigeria. The sample consists of 320 adolescents randomly selected using purposive sampling technique. The research instrument was the oral interview for the out-of-school adolescents and questionnaire for the health care providers. Percentages were used in the data analysis. The result indicated poor personal health protective practices of the out-of-school adolescents. The Health care centres are not adequately utilized. Self-medication was highly practiced by the subjects. Sequel to this finding, the investigator recommended that Health Education through community participation should be emphasized. Local Government Councils should vigorously pursue policies that will enhance personal health protective practices through teaching of Health Education in schools. (Contains 3 tables.) (Author). |
