AbstractThis article describes a project called "Kids Speaking Up for Kids: Advocacy by Children, for Children". The project was simple in scope. The authors sought to collect stories of child advocacy--ways in which children were working on behalf of other children. They also sought to collect and profile children's voices and vision and so they issued a "call for voices of children." Children were asked to respond to the following questions: (1) If you could tell the most important and influential person in your country what children need, what would you say?; (2) Why should adults listen to the voices of children and youth?; (3) Can kids make a difference? How?; and (4) How could kids help kids around the world?. In response to their request for children's voices, the authors also received inspiring examples of advocacy work being done by children around the world. The following five projects demonstrate the potential of children to effect real and lasting change, and demonstrate the power of children's participation: (1) You Help, You Care: Actions Demonstrate the Strength of One's Commitment (Avon Grove Intermediate, West Grove, Pennsylvania); (2) Auction of Children's Artwork for Charity (Magic World Kindergarten with UNESCO Assistance--Moscow, Russia); (3) Publishing Children's Voices for Charity (Belvarosi Altalanos Iskola Jaszbereny--Jaszbereny, Hungary); (4) 10th Anniversary on the Convention on the Rights of the Child (International Tapori Children's Network); and (5) Sowing the Seeds of Love (Ming Hsin University of Science and Technology, Taiwan). Through lively stories, plays, songs, drama, and diaries, the authors learn to motivate children to respect themselves and others. They learn to encourage caring and to implement it in their actions. They learn to empower kids morally to reflect on actions and develop personality and spirituality. (ERIC).
