Abstract	This article deals with the impact brought by the school shootings at Red Lake Indian Reservation in Minnesota to the school community. A deeply troubled 16-year-old student shot and killed seven other people and himself at a high school. The nation's deadliest school attack since the 1999 slayings at Colorado's suburban Columbine High School took place on an isolated reservation that spreads across 564,426 acres of woodland just south of the Canadian border. This article discusses how Red Lake High School is becoming more aware in terms of school security and that it has a crisis-management plan and had conducted drills. It also has a metal detector and security guards. This article also discusses how the incident had caused a great concern for Indian education officials elsewhere and that the important factor in preventing violence in schools is encouraging families to take an active role.
