Abstract | This article reports how fake firearms have become a growing problem for schools. These sophisticated look-alikes have caused a spate of incidents involving students at campuses and school-sponsored events. In Utah, two students were suspended from the Uintah High School pending an investigation after they were caught with look-alike pistols at a school football game. In another incident, a 17-year-old student at the Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis was suspended pending the outcome of a school investigation involving an imitation firearm. School administrators and police officials have emphasized the difficulty of distinguishing between imitation firearms and assault-like semiautomatic weapons. (ERIC). |
