| Abstract | Managers of early childhood education programs know that it is imperative that their organization's collective energy be focused in a single direction, one that has been envisioned and determined by the organization's leadership, with input from all who will affect or be affected by it. A mission statement provides a constant reminder within an organization of what is important and germane. It represents the organization's "raison d'etre"--reason for being. This article focuses on how to develop and shape a mission statement that reflects on an organization's collective vision and serves the organization's well in its endeavors. (Contains 3 figures.)
