Abstract | The National Council on Economic Education's (NCEE) EconEdLink site provides lessons and classroom learning activities based on economics topics in the news, as well as access to real-time economic data. EconEdLink's content is designed to help integrate economic concepts across the curriculum as outlined in the Voluntary National Content Standards in Economics. EconEdLink houses more than 400 lessons and activities, and users can find online lessons employing several different search strategies. While EconEdLink lessons benefit teachers and students who choose to utilize them, the teacher-author also benefits from the process of writing a lesson using the EconEdLink review process. Experience in lesson writing with the rigorous review process can strengthen techniques and strategies of any teacher who is using or considering using internet-based lessons in the classroom. Three reasons why EconEdLink lessons are among the best online are that they (1) are designed by classroom teachers; (2) have been subject to rigorous review; and (3) the NCEE Technology Office staff maintains the site and responds to reviews, feedback, and technical complaints. EconEdLink lessons are easily adaptable for teacher needs, and parents home schooling their children can use it to teach economic concepts. Adults interested in learning economics can also use the lessons in their quest for lifelong learning. Students appreciate how EconEdLink lessons helped to connect theory to real-world applications. Student achievement is enhanced, and their interest in learning even more economic content via the internet is increased. (ERIC). |
